On 7 July 2026, the Primary Section teachers of Unity College, Ms Sakeena Raza, Ms Mehnaz Mehdi, Ms Ila Shahid and Ms Mariyam Fatima, attended a Burlington Educational Webinar on Brain Breaks. The session highlighted the importance of incorporating purposeful pauses into classroom teaching to enhance learners’ attention, motivation and overall classroom engagement.
The speakers explained that brain breaks, which combine physical movement, mindfulness and playful activities, help refresh the mind, improve concentration and support emotional regulation. The webinar also emphasised that these short intervals enable the brain to consolidate learning, resulting in better retention and improved academic performance.
Participants were introduced to a range of practical activities, including Brain Gym, Total Recall, Shape Breathing, Name 3 and Draw on My Back Race. The session concluded by reinforcing that these simple yet effective strategies can be easily integrated into everyday lessons to create a more focused, energetic and productive learning environment.
